Women's Basketball Huskies top Lightning in overtime

The Keyano Huskies Women's Basketball team faced a stiff challenge from the St. Mary's University Lightning, but prevailed 83-80 in overtime Friday in Fort McMurray, Alta. to remain perfect on the season. 

Shooting 42.1 per cent from the field, the Huskies sank eight three pointers in the game. They also made good on 11 of 18 free-throw attempts. The Lightning shot 34.7 per cent from the field, making five three-point shots and sinking 23 of their 24 free throws. 

The Lightning held a five-point lead through the first quarter, but the Huskies responded to take a one-point lead at the half. The Huskies increased their lead to six after three quarters, but the Lightning pushed back to force the game into extra time with a 23-point fourth quarter. 

In the extra period, a 10-point effort from the Huskies was enough to secure the victory. 

Maja Besic finished strong and tallied 19 points, earning Player of the Game honours. Kayla Lutterodt also drained 19 points while Joy Victor finished close behind with 18. Zera Lynn Panesa scored five of her eight points off the bench in the extra period. 

Jazmyn Kellogg led her side with 21 points, finishing just ahead of a 20-point effort from Maitlynn Wilde, to earn Player of the Game honours. Ivet Hidalgo had 19 points off the bench for the visitors.
