Rustlers Tarnish Ooks Home Opener

On Friday night, the NAIT Ooks women's basketball team tipped off against the Lakeland Rustlers in their home opener. The Rustlers won the game 61-51.

 

The first quarter was a strong one for the Rustlers as they battled hard both offensively and defensively. The Ooks were in bonus in the first quarter due to the aggressive defence shown by the Rustlers. The Ooks scored five out of their nine points in the first quarter from the free throw line. The Rustlers had a solid lead over the Ooks after the first quarter, scoring 26-9.

 

During the second quarter, both teams were aggressive with their defence resulting in lots of fouls. The Ooks had played a more vigorous offensive game, scoring fifteen points. After the first half, the Rustlers had an eighteen-point lead over the Ooks, 42-24.

 

Following halftime, the Ooks came out with a fire lit underneath them. They played aggressive defence, not allowing the Rustlers' offence to score often. The Ooks cut the Rustlers' lead to only ten points. The Rustlers held their lead 51-41 at the end of the third quarter.

 

In the game's final quarter, the Ooks continued to play strong on both ends of the court; however, the Rustlers were playing at the same level. The Ooks were only down by six points at one point in the game. In the end, the Ooks came up short, with the Rustlers winning the game 61-51.

 

The players of the game were number eight, Lucy Wilde, from the Ooks and number nine, Alana Olson, from the Rustlers.
