WBB| Kodiaks Secure Win in Home Opener Against Old’s Broncos in 1st of 2 Games in Weekend Series

The Kodiaks opened their season at home as they battle it out against the Broncos in Kodiak country for the 1st of 2 games in their weekend series.

The Kodiaks found their groove early on getting things underway on the court as they were able to get up on the Broncos and maintain their lead throughout the 1st quarter as #13 Gaby Power and #10 Kitawna Sparks took charge leading the Kodiaks with 4 points each to put them up 15-12 at the end of the first 10 minutes of action.

The Kodiaks continued to be strong offensively maintaining their lead but the Broncos were not far behind as they were able to get in front towards the end of the half but held onto it very briefly before the Kodiaks jumped back in front before the Broncos got an extra pointing tying the game up at 27-27 after the 1st half with the scoring race being led by #13 Makayla Rose with 9 points for the Broncos and #10 Kitawna Sparks with 8 for the Kodiaks.

The Broncos were on the Kodiaks tail the whole quarter, despite the Kodiaks still putting up points, the Broncos always found a way to get within a few points of tying the game back up. Kodiaks Kitawna Sparks was red hot putting up an additional 10 points to give the Kodiaks a late boost in the 3rd quarter to give them a strong lead putting them up 54-46 headed into to the final quarter.

The Broncos tried to do everything in their power to take control of the game but just couldn't put up enough offensive aggression allowing the Kodiaks to rack up their lead, after Old's made some costly turnovers which turned into baskets in the opposite direction, the Kodiaks were able to secure their lead as time ticked away with the Kodiaks walking away with their first win of the season coming at home with a final score of 73-68.
