Rustlers stay Undefeated and take home Gold!
The Lakeland Rustlers take on the NAIT Ooks tonight at 8 pm, competing for the gold medal game at 8 pm at Lakeland College in Lloydminster, Alberta.
The Rustlers came out with a lot of intensity in the first quarter, using their offensive sets to try and get a leg up on the Ooks. The Ooks attempted to use their defensive power to try and execute on the offensive end. However, the Rustlers were not letting up, taking the first quarter, 24-4 for the Rustlers.
Entering into the second quarter, the Rustlers were playing with much intensity on the defensive end, holding the Ooks to only 9 points 3 minutes into the second quarter. The Rustlers continued to execute on the offensive end, ending the half, 38-16 for the Rustlers.
The Ooks returned into the second half of the game with high intensity and drive, playing a challenging defensive set, holding the Rustlers to only 7 points late into the third quarter. Although struggling to score, the Rustlers kept pushing the ball and playing high-intensity defence in an attempt to hold back the Ooks. The Rustlers remained in the lead, ending the third quarter, 51-34.
Entering into the final quarter of play, the Ooks came with high intensity and drove in hopes of taking the lead from the Lakeland Rustlers. However, the Rustlers continued to push with their offensive pressure and took a comfortable lead nearing the end of the fourth quarter. Alana Olson made huge plays late in the fourth to continue Rustler's run. The Ooks could not make a comeback, and the Rustlers took home the gold medal game,
The players of the game were #5 Tori Dugan for the Lakeland College Rustlers and #15 for the NAIT Ooks. Congrats to the Lakeland Rustlers for their undefeated season and taking home the ACAC Gold Medal tonight!
