Rattlers explode in second half to win over Queens

The Red Deer Queens headed into Medicine Hat to take on the Rattlers in ACAC Playoff action. The Rattlers looked to take advantage of home court advantage while the Queens looked to spoil the party. The first quarter started with both teams struggling to find the basket early. Settling down in the middle of the quarter, the teams traded baskets in a tightly contested match. Neither team was willing to give an inch on defence and the quarter ended in a 13-13 tie.

The second quarter looked much like the first. Neither team was able to produce on offence and a very tight defensive backcourt. The Queens were finding success on the fast break and were able to match every rattlers basket. This changed about midway with the Rattlers able to open a very small lead. This lead did not change as the home side held a small 3 point lead at the break, 25-22

The third  Quarter started with a flurry from the Rattlers going on an early 7-0 run. With this they were able to quickly expand their lead. Medicine Hat continued from here to push the ball inside and rely on points in the paint. The Queens were unable to stop this and turned to shooting 3's on the other end of the court. Coming up empty from long range, Red Deer looked inside and hit a few mid range numbers to stem the bleeding. But Medicine Hat continued to pull away, hitting a few 3's at the end of the quarter and going up by 20 heading into the fourth. The score at the break saw the Rattlers up 48-28

The Fourth looked much like the third. Medicine Hat was firmly in control with not much game left. The Queens once again looked to the 3 ball to try and chip away at the Rattler lead, but continued to come up empty. Medicine Hat was still working the ball inside and looked to finish hard at the rim. With this they continually drew fouls and earned many trips to the charity stripe. Still with a big focus on Defence, the Rattlers were able to frustrate the queens on every scoring opportunity holding them to only 10 points in the quarter. Medicine Hat was able to advance winning 66-38.
