Huskies sweep Vikings in season series

CAMROSE, AB - After meeting just a few short weeks ago, the Keyano College Huskies continued their dominance over the Augustana Vikings, 84-63 Friday night at Augustana Gym.

With the win, the Huskies not only sweep the Vikings in their three-game season series, but they also increase the small gap in standings over the Vikings for second place, with the Huskies having 18 points, while the Vikings remain stagnant with 14 points. In addition, the Huskies improve their win streak to eight games after having a slow start to the season.

Leading the visitors to victory was fourth-year guard Kiana Mintz who had 22 points, eight rebounds, nine assists, one steal, and one block. Meanwhile, teammate Moiyan Toure added 20 points and eight rebounds.

Across the court, the home side found some success from Verterns Hannah Mitchell and Lauren Cardinal who had 13 points and 12 points, respectively. Mitchell also added 12 rebounds for the double-double.

Starting off in an even matchup, both sides exchanged points throughout the first half with the Huskies narrowly edging out the home side at the half, up 45-38.

Now being able to take advantage of 18 personal fouls committed by their visitors, the Vikings found themselves slipping further and further away as the clock tick away in the fourth in the final quarter. The Huskies found themselves up by 23 points with 1:56 remaining on the clock, sealing the deal.

Looking ahead, the Vikings will head to Edmonton Sunday afternoon to take on the NAIT Ooks in an afternoon match-up at 1pm. Meanwhile, the Huskies will make the trip home and await the King's University Eagles on Sunday. Catch all the action on ACACtv.
