WBB| Kodiaks Fall Short in Last Match of the Season to Visiting St. Mary’s Lightning 71-65
The Kodiaks looked to finish the season with a win as the 2nd place St. Mary's Lightning visited Kodiak country
The Lightning were dominant in the 1st quarter taking advantage of the Kodiaks as they struggled to create any strong offense. St. Mary's #20 Macyn Morning Bull was the player to watch during the quarter picking up 7 points as she led the Lightning to a 21-3 lead at the end of the 1st.
The Kodiaks found their groove in the 2nd quarter as they started to close in on the Lightning as they tried to take the game out of reach from the Kodiaks. Natalie Heninger and Annah Westrop led the Kodiaks with points in the quarter with 4, giving the Kodiaks some hope to get back in the game. The Lightning remained on top at the end of the half leading 47-19.
Both the Kodiaks and the Lightning went back and forth with scoring in the quarter, trying to get an edge on the other team. Kodiaks Courtney Deemter did what she could to try and get the Kodiaks back in the game collecting 8 points in the quarter, but the Lightning stayed strong and held the Kodiaks back as the Lightning led 64-38 headed into the 4th quarter.
The Kodiaks came into the 4th quarter flying, the Kodiaks knew they needed to make something happen to get back into the game, and that's exactly what they did. Courtney Deemter and Kirsten Barwegen combined for 19 points in the quarter to get the Kodiaks back in the game after being down 25 points headed into the 4th quarter as the Lighting struggled to create any defense. The Kodiaks however could not fully complete the full comeback falling 71-65 to the Lightning.
