Big Third Quarter Leads Thunder Past Kings

EDMONTON, AB (November 5, 2021) – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder welcomed the Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Queen's to close out their home exhibition schedule. Taking a lead early, the Thunder were able to hang on for a 76-53 win.
The Thunder came out firing in the first quarter as they jumped out to an early lead. The Queen's were able to close the gap as the period came to a close, but the Thunder hung onto a 21-15 lead. The second quarter was more of a back and forth affair as both teams exchanged baskets. The Queen's were able to cut into the Thunder lead, but the Thunder seemed to always have an answer. Still, the Thunder took a 34-30 lead into the half. The halftime break seemed to energize the Thunder as they came out flying in the third quarter, outscoring the Queen's 28-14. Lead by nine points in the period from #4 Olivia Armstrong, the Thunder took a 62-44 lead after three. The fourth quarter was more of the same, as the Thunder were able to extend their lead and hold off the Queen's from making things close as the won the fourth quarter and went on to win the game 76-53.
The Thunder finish their exhibition schedule tomorrow as they visit the NAIT Ooks. They kick off their regular season next Saturday as they welcome the Lakeland Collere Rustlers.
