Thunder Ride Big Fourth Quarter To Win Over Eagles

EDMONTON, AB – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder opened the second half of their schedule by welcoming The King's University Eagles in Friday night action. The game was close out of the gate, with several lead changes, but the Thunder hung on for the important win 65-55.

The Thunder came out of the gate strong, jumping out to an early lead in the first quarter and maintaining it through the period as they lead 20-14 after the first. The tides turned in the second quarter, however, as the Eagles not only fought their way back into it, but took a two-point lead into halftime 34-32. The tight back and forth contest continued into the third quarter, as both teams stepped up their defensive effort and the Thunder managed to cut the Eagles lead to only one after three quarters: 45-44. The Thunder took control of the fourth quarter, grabbing the lead and not looking back as they would go on to outscore the Eagles in the quarter by 11, and take the game by the 65-55 final.

The Thunder and Eagles meet again tomorrow to close out the home-and-home weekend series at King's. The Eagles will undoubtedly be looking for the weekend split.

The Kahunaverse Players of the Game were #15 Brittany Veldman for the King's Eagles, and #13 Leah Piekema for the Thunder!
