WBB | Kodiaks overwhelm the Trojans in aggressive game

January 18, 2019 - The Kodiaks took the lead at the start of the first quarter however the Trojans were not far behind, as they claimed their dominance on the court.

It was an intense first half as both teams fought for control of the game. Trojans managed to sneak past the Kodiaks and gain the lead of the game, forcing head coach Deanna Dotts of the Kodiaks to call a time-out. This was a strategic move for Lethbridge as they regained their lead, leaving half at 27-24.

Melanie Thera of SAIT Trojans was an offensive threat when it came to rebounding as she earned seven in the first half. Meanwhile, Kirsten Barwegen of Lethbridge Kodiaks contributed seven points at half while Melissa Wooley supplied ten points for the Trojans.

After half, the Kodiaks poured on the pressure by taking a ten point lead against the Trojans. Kirsten Barwegen continued to establish her presence on the court which in turn allowed her team to follow her example.

Both teams were fighting a hard battle in the third quarter which led to a more aggressive game. Courtney Peterson took a few knocks on the court but persevered through the pain. The Kodiaks held a firm lead going into the fourth quarter with a score of 50-38.

Intensity carried over into the fourth quarter as both teams were not giving up the ball without a fight which caused Kodiaks post, Shayna Mathison to foul out before the game could come to an end.

However, the Kodiaks managed to close out the game with another win under their belt with a score of 65-51.
