Lightning Women win over Queens

The St. Mary's University Women's Basketball were coming into the 2nd semester as a .500 team. Their first opponent of the 2nd semester were the Red Deer College Queens. As like the Friday matchup the game was close in the first two quarters ending in 34-34 tie. First half was dominated by three players on both sides of the ball. Red Deer has scoring from Lauren Cardinal (10 points). Mallory Uskiw (6points) and Jessica Handley (7 points). St Mary's had consistent scoring from Emily Wagner (15 points), Kennedy Burgess (8 points) and Hannah Helton (4 points).

Both teams had dominated their own defensive rebounds and no one team could pull away in the 1st half.

St. Mary's came out from the locker room with a mission and they delivered in the 3rd quarter with a 30-13 scoring advantage. Possibly this was the difference in the game unlike the previous night. Wagner dominated the quarter with 13 points. She had help from Helton with 6 points. Lightning shut down defensively and held the Queens to 5-17 from the floor. In that quarter St. Mary's were 6/8 from 3 point line.

With the game out of reach, the 4th quarter was balanced play even through St. Mary's had won the quarter 17-11.

ACAC and St. Mary's University sponsored Players of the Game - Lauren Cardinal (RDC) with 15 points and Emily Wagner (StMU) with 34 points

Red Deer College ACAC record falls to 1-9 and St. Mary's University improves to 6-4.
