Wolves welcome Keyano College to Grande Prairie for a weekend series

The Wolves take on the Keyano Huskies from Fort McMurray. They opened the weekend series in front of a busy crowd. The Huskies started the game on a 9-0 run. The Wolves started to sink some hoops and brought the game back to 11-15. Both teams applied pressure to the buzzer. #12 Sarah McDonald for the Huskies hit a 3-point shoot with under a minute to go. Wolves fouled and Huskies sunk one more. After the first quarter, 11-19.

The Wolves were looking to close the 8-point gap in the second quarter. Both teams were battling hard at both ends. Wolves getting points from #12 Sophie Melin and the Huskies getting points from #9 Augusta Kievisaite. The quarter ended Huskies up 35-25. Top point scorers half way through the game are #11 Brittany Peters with 6 points from GPRC, and #12 Sarah McDonald with 12 points from Keyano.

The crowd was entertained at half time by the talented Gymniks Cheer Team. They demonstrated their cheer skills and athleticism to a busy crowd. The Huskies came out strong in the third quarter going on a 10-0 run. The Wolves got back to back buckets from #10 Lilee Burke-Stasiuk to break the Huskies streak. At the end of the third Huskies are up by 15 points, 39-54.

The fourth and final quarter seen the Huskies get points 8 points from #23 Moiyan Toure and 5 points from #12 Sophie Melin. Keyano Huskies take the first game of the weekend series 72-50.

The Mr. Mikes Player of the Game from the Wolves was #15 Kelly Ried and from the Huskies #9 Augusta Kievisaite. Both teams are back in action tomorrow at 1pm in the GPRC gymnasium.
