WBB | Kodiaks tame Lions in commanding fashion

Despite some growing pains throughout the first semester, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks women's basketball team ended the first portion of their schedule on a high note with a win over Ambrose on Saturday night.

Using a balanced scoring attack, the Kodiaks blitzed the Lions in the opening quarter and never looked back, claiming their third win of the season with a 78-58 triumph.

The Kodiaks came out flying, scoring off the opening tip-off on their way to shooting 64% in the first frame. Leading 24-11 after one, the Kodiaks proceeded to win each quarter thereafter.

First years Madi Gladstone and Amy Berryman led the balanced Kodiaks offensive attack, each laying in 16 points. Shayna Mathison came close to a double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Desperately turning to the deep ball trying to get back in the game, Ambrose went just 1-16 from the three-point line. Caitlyn Hetrick scored a game-high 17 points in a losing effort.

The Kodiaks finish 2017 at 4-3, sitting just outside the ACAC playoff picture. Lethbridge will resume play in the new year, hosting Red Deer on Jan. 12.
