Broncos complete weekend sweep of Trojans

The Olds College Broncos successfully defended home court, knocking off the SAIT Trojans in straight sets (25-17, 25-23, 25-20) at the Ralph Klein Centre on Saturday to complete a sweep of the weekend home-and-home between the two sides.

Aidyn Phillips and Matheus Franca each posted nine kills and a block to pace the Broncos (8-5), while Phillip Sutherland added seven kills of his own to go with four digs and two blocks; defensively, Jesse Stoddart and Reed Grusing each posted five digs for Olds.

For SAIT (4-9), Filip Florek and Dominic Soucie each had six kills and three digs, with Florek also adding a block; Richard Hy and William Giles also contributed three digs apiece for the Trojans.

The win for the Broncos sets up a pivotal weekend series in Saskatchewan against the Briercrest College Clippers, with possession of the third seed in the ACAC South up for grabs beginning Friday at 7 p.m. MST. Meanwhile, SAIT moves on to play the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings in Calgary on Friday, with first serve set for 8 p.m.
