MVB | Kodiaks tame Lions in four sets

January 28, 2022- The Lethbridge Kodiaks were prepared to take on the Ambrose Lions as fans were finally here to watch the action face to face.

When the game began it was difficult to decide which team was carrying the momentum, nevertheless, #15 Nikita Marchenka from the Lions achieved 4 kills for his team hoping to gain control. However, the Kodiaks libero, Malcom Fisher dominated the backcourt putting up a fight to keep the ball alive. Even though the game started off slow, the Kodiaks took the lead, gaining the momentum needed to take the set and win 25-17.

Nevertheless, the Lions were not letting this get to them, as they fought hard to dominate the court in the second set. Each rally had the crowd sitting on the edge of their sets, unsure who was going to take the next point. The Kodiaks were unable to bounce back allowing the Lions to swoop in and take the second set 25-19. Lions #7 finding the weak spots.

The game continued neck and neck, Kodiaks outside hitter, Nolan Moes made himself known with his offensive swings and defensive blocks. However, the Lions' left-side hitter, Nicholas Jabusch demonstrated a powerful presence on the court hitting at all the Kodiaks' weak spots. These players were key components in this set, battling for the 26th point. Nevertheless, the Kodiaks gained control winning the third set 26-24, only needing one more set to take the game.  

The Kodiaks continued to take the lead in the fourth set however, the Lions were not far behind, prepared to gain points on the Kodiaks' mistakes. Nevertheless, the Kodiaks kept their composure no matter the point, ultimately leading them to victory with a 25-22 score. Making that a 3-1 set win for the Kodiaks.
