RDP Kings pick up three set win over visiting Rattlers

Red Deer, AB – The Red Deer Polytechnic used eight kill performances from Brett Lower and Cody Boulding and downed the visiting Medicine Hat College Ratters in three sets (25-12, 25-14, and 25-14).

With Maddux Greves at the service line, the Kings jumped out to a 9-2 edge in the opening set. Along with a pair of service aces from the fourth-year setter, outside hitter Patrik Toze racked up three kills. Greves spread out the offence to middles Cody Boulding and Dillon Gauci, and the home team solidified a 25-12 win.

In a back and forth start to the second set, a kill from the Rattlers' outside hitter Jovan Stepanovich evened it 7-7. Then the Kings started to pull away and middle Cody Boulding pushed the Kings up by four (18-14) with his sixth kill. The home team expanded its lead and wrapped up a 25-14 decision.

Brett Lower's sixth kill lifted RDP ahead by six points (14-8) in the third set. Midway through the set, Jovan Stepanovich and Nathan Chernik had six kills apiece, trying to bring the Rattlers back, but the Kings were able to seal a 25-14.

Cody Boulding was named the North Star Sports Kings Player of the Game. The third-year Bachelor of Kinesiology student recorded eight kills on eight attempts along with three stuff blocks.

Outside hitter Patrik Toze added seven kills and one dig for the Kings. Maddux Greves had 27 assists, three kills, two digs, one stuff block and three of the Polytechnic's six service aces.

Jovan Stepanovich received top honours for the Rattlers, totaling six kills and providing his squad a spark. Josh Penner picked up Medicine Hat's lone service ace. Setter Mitchell Beaupre contributed 18 assists and two digs.

On Sunday, November 28, the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings (5-0) will face the Rattlers (0-3) in Medicine Hat at 2 pm.
