Broncos Sweep Lions in Last Game of the Season

Broncos Sweep Lions in Last Game of the Season

Tonight saw Adrian Strandberg, Jared Vanderzwaag and Mark Fountain, all play their final volleyball game of the collegiate careers.  While the Lions hoped to be able to send them off on a good note, Olds had plans of their own and ultimately beat the Lions in 3 sets.

To start the game, the Broncos block came up big in multiple occasions (thanks to Thomas Pugsley & Ryzen Walkingbear) helping set the tone for the rest of the match.  The Broncos quickly got out to a large lead in the first set, continuing off of their 5 set victory last night over the Lions.   A serving run by middle, River Thomas put the Broncos up 6-2 and they would never look back, ultimately building their lead to 17-8.  A late push by the Lions would make the final score respectable, finishing 19-25.

Both 2nd and 3rd sets were much tighter all the way though.  Ambrose kept both sets tight until faltering late in both sets, resulting in a 3-0 sweep for Olds.

While both teams had a similar amount of kills, it would be service and attack errors that would let the Lions down tonight. Especially in the 3rd set, Ambrose struggled from the service line, totaling 8 errors to 0 aces.

It was nice to see both coaches utilize their bench, as a majority of both teams' players saw the floor tonight, in what was the last game of the season for both teams as neither will be heading to the ACAC playoffs.

After the game, Player of the Game awards were presented to all 3 graduating players from the Lions (Strandberg, Vanderzwaag & Fountain) while for the Olds Broncos, Matheus Franca would receive the award thanks to his 8 kills, and 3 service aces.
