MVB | Kodiaks find redemption against SAIT

Feb. 15, 2020 – The Kodiaks entered into the match looking to rebound from a tough 3-0 loss to the SAIT Trojans on the previous night in Calgary.

Kodiaks Carter Hansen made a statement to start off the first set with a powerful service ace, motivating the team to pull ahead early. The Kodiaks put in work behind the service line while dominating at the net with 12 kills and 3 blocks, including an impressive showing from Nolan Moes to claim the set 25-15.

The Kodiaks energy flowed over into the second set to create the tone as the Kodiaks quickly stole the lead, but the Trojans were determined not to go easily. After an injury to Trojans Brendan Vanderlinde, the team rallied to tie it up and put the pressure on. The Trojans stole the lead late in the set but the momentum shifted after a yellow card was issued to head coach Dallas Soonias, allowing the Kodiaks to tie it up 24-24. Carter Hansen put away the kill to decide the match and the Kodiaks took it 26-24.

Quinn Buchanan was the first to light up the court with a kill for the Kodiaks in the third set, but the Trojans came out more prepared captured the early lead. Coming back from an 8-2 deficit, the Kodiaks clawed their way back into the lead, forcing a Trojans timeout. Carter Hansen put up four services aces but the Trojans held closely behind, but a Trojans out-of-rotation service broke their momentum. The Kodiaks found the redemption they were looking for, taking the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.

With this win, the Kodiaks advance their record to 18-4 while the Trojans fall to 17-7. The Kodiaks are back in action on Friday, Feb. 21st in a weekend match-up against the Briercrest Clippers.
