Trojans struggle in loss to Kodiaks

CALGARY, ALTA., (Oct. 19, 2019) - Not much went right for the SAIT Trojans men's volleyball team on Saturday night.

The Trojans struggled for three sets, as they lost 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-14) to the visiting Lethbridge College Kodiaks in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played inside SAIT's Campus Centre.

"Volleyball starts with a serve or a pass, and in both of those areas we struggled right from the start today," said Trojans head coach Dallas Soonias. "With Lethbridge, their sum is always bigger than their parts and they've had a lot of success with that. Shouts to them for playing a magnificent game."

SAIT falls to 2-1 on the season, while Lethbridge College moves to 1-1.

Right from the get go, the Trojans seemed out of sorts, and the Kodiaks capitalized on it.

At times throughout the match, it seemed like Lethbridge was catching all the break, but Soonias disagreed with that.

"You make your luck in this sport," he said. "If you're playing bad, lucky bounces are not going to help you, and our first contact was so bad today. I'm sure we did get a few to go our way, but we don't remember them because they couldn't help us."

Mark Anderson (5th year, Calgary, Bachelor of Business Administration) and Jarett Noel (3rd year, Calgary, Geographic Information Systems) each recorded seven kills for the Trojans.

Michael Svab led the Kodiaks with seven kills of his own.

SAIT will hit the court again next weekend when they take on Olds College in a home-and-home series - Friday night at home, Saturday night at Olds.

"It's so simple, but yet there's a lot to unpack and review from this game, "Soonias finished. "But, on Monday, we're all about Olds College."
