MVB | Kodiaks Fall for The First Time

February 8, 2019 - The Lethbridge Kodiaks sitting ranked at number one in the south division went up against the second ranked team in the division, the Red Deer Kings on the Kodiaks territory.

The first set started out strong for both teams as they showed high spirits and a determination to win. The score was tight not leaving any room for mistakes, however the Kodiaks outplayed the Kings winning the first set with a score of 25-23.

The Kodiaks fell behind the Kings at the beginning of the second set intensifying the emotion of the crowd. However the Kodiaks were not ready to give up just yet as they dug up every ball they could get their hands on.

The Kodiaks started to lose their grip as head coach Greg Gibos was forced to call a time-out when they began falling behind seven points with a score of 11-18. The Kings moral was high as they led the set all the way to the final point ending at 25-18.

With plenty of enthusiasm from both teams, the match continued to force the Kodiaks to work harder than they have all year. The excitement and intensity of the Kings overwhelmed Lethbridge with another

nail biting set.

The Kodiaks were unable to achieve success in the second set, falling to the Kings incredible structure with a score of 25-22.

Heading into the third set, the Kodiaks struggled to gain the momentum once again. Yet, with a strong will to win they started to play smarter which proved to be just enough to catch up to the Kings.

Kodiaks gained the momentum near the end, making the crowd go wild which earned them the win in the fourth set with a close score of 25-23.

The Kings took the lead once again heading into the fifth set, showing the Kodiaks what they are worth and not holding back anything. The Kings took the win against the Kodiaks with a score of 15-9.

The Red Deer Kings accomplished this much anticipated match with pride as they won against the only undefeated team in the league, the Lethbridge Kodiaks. The Kodiaks took their first loss of the season, falling to 10-1 as the the Kings moved up 9-2 keeping their spot in second.
