OLDS, Alta. - The Briercrest College Clippers completed a much-needed weekend sweep, downing the Olds College Broncos in four sets at the Ralph Klein Centre on Saturday to keep pace in the ACAC South playoff race.

Mitchell Erickson led the Clippers (9-11) offensively, racking up 11 kills and three aces, paired with five digs. Karym Coleman (eight kills, three digs) and Jordan Schnitzer (seven kills, eight digs, two solo blocks) also had solid matches for Briercrest, while Javier Alvarez (five kills, five digs, four solo blocks) was named the Clippers' player of the game.

For Olds College (0-20), Haiden Hurtig earned player of the game honours after leading all attackers with 14 kills to go with 12 digs, three solo blocks and two aces, while Thundersky Walkingbear added 10 digs to go with nine kills and two aces.

The match opened with a competitive first set, though Briercrest eventually seized just enough momentum to take a 25-21 victory in the opening frame.

The second set looked like it would follow a similar formula, with the Clippers up 21-17 late. However, the Broncos would battle back to take the set 25-23 to square the match up at one set apiece.

The third set was the polar opposite, as the Broncos were up comfortably late in the set, only for Briercrest to storm back for a 25-22 victory before taking hold of the fourth set early, jumping ahead and playing consistently as they wrapped up the match with a 25-19 win.

Briercrest will welcome the SAIT Trojans to Caronport for a crucial doubleheader beginning next Friday at 8 p.m., while the Broncos head south to challenge the Medicine Hat College Rattlers.
