SAIT dumps Lions in speedy affair
CALGARY, ALTA., (Jan. 11, 2019) — There was no holiday rust on the SAIT Trojans men's volleyball team Friday night.
Playing in their first Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) contest of 2019, the Trojans made short work of the visiting Ambrose University Lions, beating them 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-14).
"Offensively, we ran pretty smoothly, starting with some pretty decent passing," said Trojans head coach, Sean McKay. "Defensively, we did a good job of not giving them too many easy points. They tipped a couple of balls out that, maybe, we could have had, but other than that we were pretty good."
SAIT moves to 11-4 on the season, while Ambrose falls to 2-13.
The Trojans were in the driver's seat pretty early, opening the match with a super quick 25-11 win. That result set the tone for the rest of the game.
"The guys came out confident, communicated well and were very loud," McKay added.
The Trojans were led by Mark Anderson (4th year, Calgary, Bachelor of Business Administration), who had seven kills, six digs and three service aces.
Graeson Bergen paced the Lions with six kills.
The teams will wrap up their weekend set tomorrow night across town at Ambrose University at 8pm.
"We're getting into the games that not only matter in regards to playoff spots, but for figuring out what lineup works best for us," McKay finished. "So, we're going to put the guys out there who are going to win us games."
