MVB | Make it eleven! Kodiaks down Broncos

Nov. 23, 2018 – On a night when the Kodiaks hosted alumni from their sixty years of history, the Kodiaks men's volleyball team continued to make history of their own.

The Kodiaks won their eleventh straight game to start the season, improving their record breaking start in straight sets (25-20, 25-17,25-12) over the Olds College Broncos.

Even though the Broncos (0-11) entered the game without a win, by no means was this an easy victory for the home side.

Olds actually led 19-16 late in the first set, causing the Kodiaks to tense up.

Staying patient, the Kodiaks used strong net play to tie the match at 20, then rattled off five of the next six points to win the set and earn the early advantage.

Lethbridge then poured on the pressure in the second set, taking an early lead without looking back. The Kodiaks were able to give their starters a rest while still taking set two comfortably.

The Kodiaks power game at the net proved to be too much for the Broncos in the third set, as they steered home the win with a commanding 25-12 victory.

Carter Hansen continued his torrid offensive pace for the Kodiaks, recording 13 kills on a .550 hitting percentage. Mike Hummel added four kills and four blocks, while Zach Wikenheiser recorded 31 assists.

Michael Svab was awarded player of the game for the hosts, recording three digs, three blocks and three kills. Haiden Hurtig received the honour for the Broncos, knocking down eight kills.

Up next

The Kodiaks and Broncos will each play their final game before the ACAC holiday break Sunday afternoon, with first serve at 3 p.m.
