Rattlers "Clipped" at home

Rattlers "Clipped" at home

In a rematch of last night the Briercrest Clippers entered the Snake Pit to take on the Medicine Hat College Rattlers. The Rattlers hoped to build on their 4 set win the night previous, while the Clippers were looking for a different result. The first set started with both squads trading side-outs. The first serve held was from Rattler Keandre Evans who rattled off 4 straight to help his squad jump out to an early lead. Teams started to again trade side-outs hoping for the other to make a mistake. Both offences were playing well converting on a high percentage of opportunities. The Clippers were able to chip away at the Rattlers lead evening the game at 14. Both teams battling for everything, bodies were flying all over the gym. With a fast two points from Alfred Dalevik and Keandre Evans, the Rattlers were able to regain their two point advantage. This held as teams were effective in their offence and were not able to gain a firm control of the set. Tied up at 23, the set was still anybody's to win. A Block from Rattlers captain Dalevik, allowed the Rattlers to serve for the set. The Clippers attack came out on top scoring two straight and serving for the win. This was all they needed as they came back to win 26-24 and taking the first set.

The Clippers opened up the second set with 5 straight points. Many of these from Rattler error and not a Briercrest Dominance. These mistakes continued as the rattlers maintained their deficit not making up any ground quickly. The momentum stayed in Briercrest's favor as they were making big hits and scoring points. A ball that appeared long was called in and a reaction from the Rattlers side cost them a red card. This momentum killer also allowed the Clippers lead to grow. Now 12-4, the clippers had the set in firm control. The Rattler side started to get angry and the aggression started to work in their favor. But the biggest problem for the rattler squad is the aggression was uncontrolled. Some big kills followed by wild misses meant they were never making any ground on Briercrest. 21-12 saw subs enter from both sides. This did not do too much as the score was so far out of hand it would take a miracle to come back from. Another Rattler error ended the set 25-14 an embarrassing defeat for the Medicine Hat side.

The third set opened with a big block from the Rattlers that seemed to bring the crowd back into the game. This was needed as the home crowd had been silenced by the Clippers. The teams again evenly matched to start, traded side-outs until an ace from Rattler Dalevik. This was the first break the Medicine Hat College squad had seen for a bit. This was quickly matched from the Clippers side of the net. Another Rattler ace, this time from Lesuk had the rattlers gain another advantage. This small 3 point gap was the biggest lead the rattlers had since the first. Another rattler point saw the Briercrest team take a timeout before the lead got away. This seemed to help as the comeback started. Down one 17-16 the clippers served an ace to tie the game at 17. Continuing this momentum the scored two more to take the Lead 19-17 forcing the Rattlers to take a timeout to regroup. This did not help immediately as the Rattlers sacrificed the next point. Side-outs traded and the Clippers inched closer to victory. Nothing was working for Medicine Hat as the Clippers served out the game for victory 25-19
