Trojans push past Broncos

OLDS, Alta. - The SAIT Trojans bested the Olds College Broncos in four sets at the Ralph Klein Centre on Thursday.

There were a number of solid performances for the Trojans (5-4), with Justin Latu'ila leading the charge with 18 kills and 16 digs. Riley Grusing added 18 kills, 13 digs, and two solo blocks, while Brennen Willis contributed eight kills and eight solo blocks.

Thundersky Walkingbear was the focal point of attack for the Broncos (0-9), finishing with 16 kills and eight digs. Tyler Donnally added seven kills and 12 digs, while Braden Bates was solid in the front court with five solo blocks.

The opening set was largely controlled by the Trojans, establishing themselves early and withstanding a late Olds College run to take it 25-20.

The Broncos punched back in the second set, putting together a strong performance to even the match at a set apiece with a 25-16 victory.

SAIT provided an emphatic response in the third set, taking it 25-14 to go up two sets to one. The fourth set featured a number of momentum swings before the Trojans eventually took control late, wrapping up the match with a 25-20 victory.

Setter Alex Lyndon (36 assists, 10 digs) was named the Trojans player of the game, while Donnally took the honours for Olds College.

The Broncos and Trojans will battle once more on Friday in Calgary, with the first serve set for 8 p.m.
