Lions Lose in Four Sets to Trojans

It was another tough outing for the Lions against their crosstown rivals the SAIT Trojans, dropping tonight's game in four sets. 2nd year middle Evan Mann (8 kills, 1 block) was the home team Player of the Game, while the Trojan POG was rightside Jarrett Noel (18 kills, 16 digs).

Though both teams came out of the gate with a lot of energy, the Trojans came out on top of a hotly-contested opening set 28-26 after a Lions blocking error. SAIT rolled their way to a 2-0 lead, winning the second set 25-17 thanks to tough serving and relentless offense from their outside hitters Noel, Tyler Latu'ila, and Mark Anderson.

The Lions struck back in the third set, as Mark Fountain, Harry Rosewarn and Brodie Juul-Hansen all found ways to contribute in a much more competitive outing. Up 26-25, an extended, defensive rally ending in a SAIT error pushed the game to four sets after the Lions won 27-25.

Unfortunately for the home team, SAIT took back control of the match in what would be the final set, going up 5-0 to start and never looking back. A 7-1 run capped off the night for the visitors, winning 25-15 and moving to 4th place in the South. The Lions, meanwhile, drop to 2-6 and will face the Red Deer Kings next weekend. Games will be played in Red Deer on Friday night and in the Lions Den on Saturday.
