Setter's Don't Block?

Setter's Don't Block?
Setters Don't Block in Volleyball!

A setter's job in the sport of volleyball is to set his teammates up for a winning spike and point.

This afternoon at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre's Canadian National Resources Ltd. Gymnasium, Keyano Huskies men's volleyball star setter Kelly Woods (4th year, Business Admin) added a new dimension to the position.

The 6-foot-7 setter from Oyen, Alberta accumulated a team-high six blocks to go along with 28 assists in defeating the visiting University of Alberta Augustana Vikings 25-12, 25-20, 25-13.

For his efforts he was named the Huskies' Player of the Game.

Huskies opened the first set going on a 7-0 run with the Vikings taking their first time out down 6-15. The first set victory was highlighted by back-to-back blocks from Huskies' Tyrell Muskego (5th year, middle, Power Engineering, Neilburg, Saskatchewan).

Vikings were stymied in the middle set by the Huskies defense which was using triple blocks with a big time one-on-one block by Woods at 12-6 the highlight.

A number of pancake dives by Huskies' libero Joel Makara (5th year, University Studies, St. Andrews, Manitoba) proved timely in the last set.

Huskies' Justin Delorme (5th year, Middle, Business Admin, Winnipeg Manitoba) and Radoslaw Brzozowski (2nd year, Left Side, Business, Wroclaw, Poland) had 11 and 10 kills respectively. Teammate Liam Matheson (5th year, outside, Business Admin, Tauranga, New Zealand) had an all-around performance with nine kills, seven digs, three blocks and a service ace.

Vikings' Evan Richard came off the bench to claim Player of the Game status with five kills and eight digs.
