MVB | Clinched! Kodiaks secure playoff spot

Feb. 17, 2018 – It came down to the final day of the season, but the Kodiaks got the job done.

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men's volleyball team secured a return to the ACAC postseason tournament with a straight sets win over the Olds Broncos on Saturday, defeating the Broncos 25-12, 25-18, 25-14.

The win secures Lethbridge the second seed in the ACAC south division, while a loss would have likely knocked them out of the postseason picture altogether.

In the process, the Kodiaks officially eliminated the two-time defending national champion Red Deer Kings, who will fail to make the ACAC postseason for the first time in over 28 years.

After a self-proclaimed sloppy performance last night, the Kodiaks were leaving nothing to chance on Saturday afternoon. Carter Hansen led the way with 11 kills and Dax Whitehead had a huge night defensively, coming up with eight digs.

Lethbridge was in control for virtually the entire game, with their strong service game giving the Broncos fits all match long. The Kodiaks had eight service aces, with Tony Albizzati delivering three on his own.

Tarren Dion led the Broncos with five kills on the evening. Olds finishes the season winless at 0-24 and will now head home for the offseason.

Lethbridge will now prepare to head down Highway 3 to Medicine Hat for the ACAC Conference Championships beginning next Thursday. Once there, they will open the quarter-final round against the north division's third seed, which will be either The King's University Eagles or Augustana  Vikings, depending on the results of Saturday night matchups.
