Touch Weekend For the Lions As the Clippers Come Out on Top

It was a disappointing outing for Ambrose Men's Volleyball, as the Briercrest Clippers took the weekend sweep and kept the Lions out of the win column. Friday night saw the Lions come out guns blazing and win the first set 25-20; Keaton Strom, Ambrose's Player of the Game, was an offensive juggernaut with 21 kills on 50% attacking efficiency. From then on, however, the Clippers would win six straight sets to sweep the Lions and go home with two wins under their belt.

Following a great performance in the first set, the Lions fell flat as Briercrest proved very difficult to defend against. Clippers POG, setter Jeff Erickson, kept the Lions blockers guessing and contributed 38 assists over the four sets. Meanwhile, unforced errors (namely 21 service errors) made it impossible for the Lions to come back and send the game to five sets.

A kill from Clippers 5th year leftside Taylor Klassen, his ninth of the night, ended the fourth set at 25-20.

Looking similar to the women's game several hours earlier, Briercrest won Saturday's game in three sets. Harrison Rosewarn (8 kills, 5 blocks), turning his game around after a subpar performance Friday night, won Player of the Game for the Lions.

Stronger serving and blocking by the home team kept the Briercrest kill tally to 30 kills, compared to last night's 45, but the Clippers passing was their most consistent aspect of the afternoon's game. Jordan Schnitzer was the visiting team's POG; the first year middle had a great weekend, scoring 22 kills and 7 blocks over the two games.

A late push by the Lions in the third set brought themselves to within one point at 22-23, but the Clippers held on to score two quick points and win the final set 22-25. That puts them at 2-4 and 5th in the ACAC South, while the Lions have yet to find a win in this competitive division.
