Ooks Defeat Kings in Close Match

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings received a royal invite to the NAIT arena on Friday, November 18th. The first period started with RDP Kings taking the first shot of the game right before Holden Knights hit it home early to put the Kings ahead by one. Both teams showed strong defense. The Ooks made smooth passes throughout the first period to get the puck down the ice, setting up Eric Lacombe to tie the game at one. RDP came back with a big goal five minutes later from Chance Longjohn to take the lead 2-1.

The score was 2-1 after one.

In the second period, fewer shots were taken, with lots of back-and-forth action. Halfway through the second period, RDP Kings player Ryland McNinch scored the game's third goal, giving his team a 3-1 lead. The NAIT Ooks made some quick shots on two power plays throughout the second period but could not score a goal.

It was 3-1 after two periods of play.

The third period started with a four-on-four power play and then turned into a four-on-three, but neither team could get a goal. With fourteen minutes on the clock, the NAIT Ooks Mitchell Williams scored the goal to shorten the Kings' lead. It was 3-2 for the Kings, but they got a short-handed goal five minutes later to go ahead by two again. The Ooks weren't backing down as they put the pressure on and finally got back on the board, thanks to a great goal from Brandon Lawson. Two minutes later, Lawson hit it home again, tying the game at four a piece. As the threat of overtime was looming, the Ooks found their way to the back of the net with a minute and thirty seconds left to go ahead 5-4. RDP couldn't come back, and the Ooks reigned victorious.
