Vikings take down the Clippers on Alumni Weekend

Camrose,AB-The Augustana Vikings Hockey Alumni Association has hosted the 1st day of their annual alumni weekend vs the Briercrest College Clippers. Since the formation of the Alumni Association in 2016 this event has raised in excess of $45,000 for the hockey program.

The weekend's festivities began on Friday night. Alumni were welcomes with their alumni weekend packages that included refreshments and appetizers in the alumni room while enjoying the game and reminiscing the good old days with old teammates.

 

Clippers scored first on the powerplay followed immideatley by a Vikings goal by Logan Sproule. The Clippers were quick to answer back with a goal by Austin Kozluk. The vikings had no plan on giving up as Dillon McCombie tagged one short handed to tie the score even at 2-2 halfway through the first period. The second period highlights was riddled with penalties from both teams as tension rose in the rink. The second period was dominated by the Vikings as they scored 3 goals, the first one was scored by Osczevski, followed by Wormington and another by Osczevski as the last two were on the powerplay.

The third period saw rookie goalie Babbin go in for the first time this season, but that was not the only highlight as Sobchak scored the 6th goal of the game to seal their victory, but the Vikings weren't done yet as McCombie snuk another goal in on the power play to set the scoreline at 7-2.

The player of the game for the visiting Clippers was Ben Feere, a psychology student in his 5th year from Medicine Hat, Alberta. While from the Vikings it was Zakery Babin, 1st year goalie from British Columbia who made his first appereance in today's game.
