Vikings sweep Clippers on Alumni-Parent Weekend

EnCana Arena was full of friends and family this weekend as Vikings Hockey celebrated their annual Alumni-Parent Weekend with two wins versus the Briercrest Clippers. Saturday afternoon's game kept the referees busy with penalties, scattered throughout the 6-5 Vikings victory.

The Clippers opened scoring in the first period, beginning with a powerplay goal by Dawson Atamanchuk and another by Austin Kozluk. Vikings Jimmy Sheehan and Adam Osczevski answered with one each, both capitalizing on the powerplay respectively, making it 2-2 going into the second period. A short handed goal by Jordan McTaggart early in the second period put the Vikings ahead, followed by another by Vikings Forward Jarod Hovde and Osczevski's second of the game making it 5-2 for the Vikings going into the third period. The Clippers came out fast in the third period with Joshua Mitton scoring just 41 seconds in. Briercrest continued to close the gap on the Vikings with goals by Josh Boelema and another from Dawson Atamanchuk - pulling Goaltender Jeremy Balyk with a minute to go, but still came up a goal short of the win.

The Vikings sweep the weekend - with a 6-5 final. Players of the Game were Adam Osczevski for the Vikings and Dawson Atamanchuk for the Clippers.
