Vikings Host Portage Voyageurs in Pre-Season Exhibition Game

Camrose, AB - Encana Arena saw the beginnings of a tremendous season for the Augustana Vikings with an outstanding 7-1 win against the Portage Voyageurs. Despite a mild early September flurry, over 100 fans braved the snow to come watch the men stretch their legs in a pre-season game.

Going into the second period, the score was 0-0, causing slight worry amongst the Viking's fans. Shortly into the second, Groom of the Vikings opened up the scoreboard with a goal, assisted by Osczevski. Posch of the Voyageurs, assisted by Livingstone, brought the second period to a tie while shorthanded. Taking home the player of the game award was Jordan Brant, second year goalie, facing 43 shots in net. Unfortunately, the Voyageurs are headed home with a loss under their belt in the pre-season.

During the final period of the game, Viking's fans were thrilled to see 6 goals in less than 11 minutes. This brought the score to 7-1, the final score of the night. The scoring was dominated by veterans of the team, Danczak, McTaggart, Lovsin, and Groom. Rookies Hovde and Gunville contributed to the final goal count for Augustana. Skating away with player of the game recognition was Taylor Armbruster, second year defenseman. This was a great beginning for the Vikings heading into the upcoming regular season games.
