The Kings bounce back with a commanding victory over the Broncos

Red Deer, February 3, 2023 – In the second edition of the Central Alberta rivalry on the night, the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings followed their Queens up with a victory of their own.

It was a very close, defensive start to this Central Alberta matchup as just 17 points were scored in the first five minutes of the quarter. But at the end of the first quarter, the Kings were leading 21-14. The Broncos sure surged in the dying minutes to come back and make it a single-digit deficit.

To start the quarter, the Broncos took that late resurge and used it to their advantage and were able to contain the Kings offense and find their way through their defense to make it a very close game. At the end of the half, the Kings led the Broncos 43-35 after a very tight but offensive quarter for both teams. International guard Eduardo Crespo led the Kings with 15 points and with just eight players on the Broncos bench, it was very much a team effort as seven players scored and got on the scoresheet with their team leader Sina Hashemi (Sport Management) just having eight points.

After their offense struggled in the first half, the Kings managed to show up in the second half and extend their lead further. But it was their defense that was on showcase in the third quarter as they were finding stops on the Broncos. The Kings extended their lead to 24 points as they entered the fourth quarter as they outscored their opponent 21-5 in the third.

Even though the Broncos were down 20-plus points, they still fought right until the finish as they managed to stay neck and neck with the Kings in the fourth quarter scoring. Post Dennis Enns (Open Studies) showcased a couple of two-handed dunks in the dying minutes of the quarter as the Kings walked away with an 88-56 victory.

The Broncos player of the game went to guard Sini Hashemi with eight points and three rebounds. For the hometown Kings, Macgregor Manyluk was named the player of the game with nine points with all of his points coming off a long-range shot.

These two team's will rematch tomorrow in Olds with a start time of 8 pm.
