The Lakeland Rustlers started their second semester in typical form, winning a barnburner at home.
Lakeland hosted the first of a pair of contests against the NWP Wolves, which featured the season debut of former Wolves players Adul Al-Tamimi. The home side got off to a slow start, as NWP lead 21-13 after one and 40-31 at the half. In the third, the Rustlers upped their energy on the defensive end and eventually tied up the score.
The fourth quarter was as back-and-forth as a basketball game can get, with the the visiting Wolves looking like they were going to steal this one. However, a furious rush in the final minutes by the Rustlers, including a pair of conversions by Baha Salma off of steals had Lakeland back in front by a score. The two teams exchanged turnovers in the dying seconds, with the Rustlers winning 76-74.
Christian Liwanag lead all players with 23 points, while Al-Tamimi was the home POG with 17. THe teams do battle again on Saturday.
