Lakeland took advantage of a boisterous home crowd in a rare afternoon tilt.
The Rustlers met the four-time defending champion SAIT Trojans in regular season play for the first time in almost a decade. However, the two programs are very familiar with each other, as the red and white have bested the home side in their last two playoff meetings.
Lakeland had a monstrous start, cheered on by hundreds of public school students in attendance. However, the Trojans came back to take the lead at the half.
Throughout the third, the Rustlers kept the Trojans from creating a larger lead and fought until they grabbed the lead late in the 4th. A clutch basket by Johnny Mims helped the game late, as Lakeland pulled off the upset, 87-82.
Mims was the Rustlers POG, scoring 23 points. Charlie Connor lead all players with 31 points, while Wol Wol was named POG for the Trojans.
Lakeland is at home tomorrow again, facing the St. Mary's Lightning.
