Lightning weather the storm to strike

In Men's action the St. Mary's University Lightning played host to the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings in the second match up of the season opening home and home series. The atmosphere was charged for the match up as the High output lightning came face to face with a strong physical Kings squad who came to compete. The first quater saw some great back to back action when the 10 minutes ran out the Lightning saw a five point lead 19-14. Moving into the second quarter the Kings kept up with their strong defensive play and turned their defense into great offence gaining one back on the lightning by the end of the frame. Going into halftime the Lightning held onto a 44-40 lead. 

After the break the Lightning had a strong breakout quarter finishing the quarter 22-13 and giving them a 13 point lead in the game. The final quarter was a back and forth affair with both teams finishing the quarter scoring 25-25 with a final in the game giving the Lightning the victory 91-78. 

The Kings were anchored by great play from Jose Mauro putting up 21 points and 14 rebounds in the contest. The Lightning saw Brock Dewsbery have a tremendous statistical night with 31 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 1 block.

The lightning are back in home action on November 18th when they take on the University of Augustana Vikings.
