MBB| Kodiaks Go Full Throttle Against the Olds Broncos as They Pick up First Win of the Season

The Kodiaks looked to claim their first victory of the season in their season opener at home as they faced off against the Old's College Broncos in their 1st of 2 matches in their weekend series.

The Kodiaks got right to it, putting up heavy numbers leaving Olds in the dust scrambling to get their feet going but were only able to generate half as much offense as Lethbridge. The Broncos picked up the pace nearing the end of the 1st quarter tightening the gap between them and the lead but thanks to Paycen Blackmore putting up 6 points he helped keep the Kodiaks up 23-21 after the 1st quarter.

The Kodiaks were able to keep the Broncos at bay in the 2nd quarter, cutting their offensive production in half and allowing the Kodiaks to grow their lead which would be shortened in the closing minutes of the quarter as the Broncos made some crucial baskets to prevent the game getting out of hand. Kodiaks #8 Chris Schlauwitz put up 5 points in the 2nd quarter putting his total up to 12 headed into halftime with a 38-34 lead for the Kodiaks.

The Kodiaks continued to keep control of the game throughout the 3rd quarter keeping defense tight and not allowing the Broncos to gain any momentum while on the other side of the court, the Kodiaks continued to rack up the score maintaining a safe lead to stay ahead. The Kodiaks stayed on top as the 3rd quarter came to a close with a 54-45 lead on the Broncos thanks to Kodiaks Paycen Blackmore who continued to dominate the court collecting 9 points in the quarter bringing his total up to 17 on the night.

The Kodiaks got a little extra boost in the 4th quarter and a noticeable drainage in energy on the Broncos team as they struggled to keep up making it easy for the Kodiaks to get some extra points which would be plenty to secure the victory for Lethbridge to give them their first win of the season with a 67-52 finish over Olds to close out the night.
