RDP Kings pick up overtime win over Briercrest College Clippers in south quarter-final

Red Deer, AB – Overtime was needed to solve the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men's Basketball South Division Quarter-final at Red Deer Polytechnic.

The Briercrest College Clippers held an 11 point margin at the half and the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings chipped away in the second half to draw even.

The Kings eventually needed a second overtime frame to down the Clippers 88-82.

North Star Sports Kings Player of the Game Tyronn King led the RDP Kings with 12 points by the break. Jerome Adjei provided the Clippers a spark, scoring 13 points over two quarters.

The Kings added 38 points in the second half. The Clippers responded with 27 and extra time was needed. After both sides dropped 10 points in the first overtime period, the Kings outscored the Clippers 11-5 in the second overtime frame to earn the decision. 

The RDP Kings advanced to the division semi-final.

King finished with 26 points, 15 rebounds and four assists for RDP. Eduardo Crespo added 21 points and Cody White had 16 for the home team.

Jude Shepherd-Hills earned the top player honour for the Clippers, accumulating 17 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Jerome Adjei had a strong game, chipping in with 18 points, eight rebounds and one steal.

The RDP Kings shot 33.3 per cent from the field, 23.3 per cent from three-point range and 68 per cent from the free throw line.

The Briercrest College Clippers responded with 34.7 per cent, 26.9 per cent and 28.6 per cent.

Next, the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings will play the Kodiaks in Lethbridge in a division semi-final on Saturday, March 5 at 8 pm.
