Trojans overcome slow start to wrap up first place

CALGARY, ALTA., (Feb. 26, 2022) - Mission accomplished.

The four-time defending Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) champion SAIT Trojans took another step towards another trophy, as they wrapped up first place in the league's South Division with a 90-72 victory over the St. Mary's University Lightning.

SAIT finishes the regular season with a 14-2 mark, while St. Mary's falls to 8-8.

The game had a bit of a different look to it, as a malfunction with one of the baskets in the main gym forced the teams to move over and play inside the auxilliary gym - mainly used by SAIT for practices and drop-in sports.

Even the move next door had an effect on SAIT, as they started the game slow and trailed 18-10 early on. However, a 10-2 run to end the opening 10 minutes of play had them up by a basket.

The Trojans never trailed again in the contest, getting great performances from Matur Maluach (20 points) and Marcus Masters (25 point) to seal the deal.

St. Mary's was Caleb Jipp, who had a team best 17 points.

Maluach and St. Mary's Alex Cliche were named Players of the Game.
