Vikings claim a nail bitter win

CAMROSE, AB - Coming down the the wire, the Augustana Vikings narrowly defeated the Lakeland Rustlers 87-86, Friday night at Augustana Gym. 

With the win, the Vikings bounce back from two straight losses the weekend before and remain in second place in the ACAC North Division. Meanwhile, the Rustlers fall to a season record 2-4 after a long hiatus due to game postponements returning from the winter break. 

It was a hot start for the Vikings as they got their RBC Make Some Noise game underway, exploring to a 10 point lead to end the quarter, 23-13. 

Looking to stay in the game, the visitors rebounded strong to win the quarter, and every quarter thereafter, 21-20. The Vikings, however, held on to their already large lead to head in the half, 43-34. 

Hoping to keep there legs, the Rustlers continued to close the gap, find themselves down by just two points heading into the final and game deciding quarter, 60-58. 

Sitting on the edge of their seats on the bench, both teams up on a show for the camera and their fans watching from home. Finding the upper hand, was the home side as captain Nathan Bowie drained both his free throw a to put the Vikings up 87-83. In a final effort, the Rustlers Rashon Russell three point effort from deep, swished through the white mesh, but the milliseconds on the clock would prove to be to little, to late as the Vikings claimed the win, 87-86. 

Both teams will meet again tomorrow night at Lakeland in what is sure to be another exciting battle at 8pm.
