Lightning Hang on for First Victory
On November 19, 2021, St. Mary's Lightning Men's Basketball team hosted Briercrest College Clippers and came out with an incredible win of 102-93. After a long 21 months of patience and practice, they were finally back on court for league play. St. Mary's opened up the game with strong defense leading after the first quarter 28-11. Briercrest found their stride in the second shooting 50% from the field and edging out the quarter 25-22 with a score at half 50-36.
Leading the way at half for the Lightning, were Caleb Jipp with 18 points and Avery Armbrister with 15. Jerome Adjei with 11 and Riley Seaborn had 10 at half for the Clippers.
The Lightning had a strong third quarter coming out with energy and extended the lead at 84 63 at the end of the frame. Briercrest answered back in the fourth with a strong shooting performance from the 3 point line shooting 4 for 7 in the quarter and finishing the quarter 30-18.
Player of the game honours went to Caleb Jipp from the Lightning leading all scores with 38 points on the night. Player of the game honours for Briercrest went to Kyle Helsloot finishing the night with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Leading score for Briercrest was #8 Jude Shepherd-Hills finishing with 23.
