Fans returned to thrilling Basketball action in the Briercrest Hanger!
Briercrest Men's Basketball hosted CTA West in a preseason exhibition matchup Thursday night.
Briercrest opened the game by hammering a hard offence. In the first 20 seconds, number 4 Riley Seaborn scored two three pointers. In the last two minutes of the first period, CTA picked up the pace, but Briercrest held a strong defense and kept them from getting a lead as the quarter closed 23-20 for Briercrest.
In the second, CTA pushed back hard against Briercrest's strong defense as the teams traded shot-for-shot with CTA taking a two-point lead at 41-39 in response to the first quarter heading into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, CTA pulled ahead with a strong offence, but Briercrest did not give them more as they came back even with precise three pointers to close the gap. Another tight quarter as CTA had three turnovers in a row and teams went back and forth trading baskets up to a close two-point lead for the Clippers at 58-56 into the final quarter.
It was a fast-paced opening to the fourth quarter as CTA took an immediate lead before the Clippers had some impressive three pointers repeatedly to close the gap. Quick rebounds gave Briercrest a jolt of momentum into a strong fifteen-point lead with five minutes to go. The Clippers finished the game with a sixteen-point lead of 87-71 for the well-matched tense game.
At the end of the game, the Clipper's player of the game awards were presented by Jamie Ramer to CTA West's #11 Evon Myer with 12 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 assist, and 17 points and Briercrest Clipper's #4 Rylie Seaborn with 9 rebounds, 7 steals, 8 assists, and 21 points, many being three pointers.
