Big Second Half Carries Thunder Over Ooks

Edmonton, AB – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder's exhibition schedule continued Friday night as they welcomed the NAIT Ooks. A tale of two halves, the Thunder used a strong second half to come from behind and carry them to victory as they ran away with a 101-87 final.

The first quarter started off as a relatively back and forth affair as both teams exchanged leads early on. However, lead by nine points from #7 Griffin Lorenz, the Ooks took a 24-23 lead after the first period. The second quarter was again a tightly contested back and forth battle, with both teams sharing the lead. But Lorenz scored another nine points in the second quarter to give him 18 in the first half and the Ooks took a 50-48 lead into the half. The third quarter was a different story, however. The Thunder came out flying and never looked back. Lead by 10 points in the period from #14 Alex MacLean, the Thunder out scored the Ooks 26-21 in the period to take a 74-71 lead after three. The Thunder carried this momentum into the fourth quarter as #11 Carsten Ritter scored nine points and the Thunder outscored the Ooks 27-17 in the period to give the Thunder the 101-87 final.

After the game, Thunder head coach Reagan Wood commented "I'm very that the bench stepped up and was able to carry the load in the second half. Some of our young players really showed what they're capable of in a tough situation."

The Thunder exhibition season continues next Friday as The King's University Eagles pay the Thunder a visit to wrap up the Thunder's exhibition season home schedule.
