SAIT extends win streak to 3

Caronport, SK. February 28th saw the Briercrest Clippers Men's basketball team hosting the SAIT Trojans.

 

SAIT jumped out to an early 6-1 lead but the Clippers came back and the game was tied at 15 halfway through the quarter. SAIT would get ahead 23-15, leading to a timeout by Briercrest. Out of the break, the Trojans held off the Clippers and finished strong on offence and defense and took a 30-15 lead into the second quarter. 

 

In the second, SAIT opened on an 8-2 run extending their lead to 21 in the early minutes. The Trojans keep pushing the pace and were up 41-17 with 5 minutes to go in the half.  SAIT would take a 50-28 lead into the break. 

 

In the third, the teams traded baskets back and forth, with SAIT still holding a 60-35 lead halfway through the third quarter. Briercrest closed the quarter well, but still trailed 70-49 entering the fourth. 

 

In the final quarter, the Clippers came out strong and had a 9-4 run to open. SAIT would keep up the pressure on offence however, and still lead 84-64 going into the game's final minutes. They would hold on, and the Trojans took home a 90-72 win over the Clippers. 

 

The player of the game award for SAIT went to #9 Taliik Ross who had 20 points, along with 15 rebounds and 2 blocks. For Briercrest, the award went to #13 Yogi Cheatham who recorded 12 points, 4 assists and an impressive 6 steals. 

 

After the game, Cheatham had this to say; "We got a little out of tempo from how we usually play and were a little too conservative and SAIT was playing aggressive. We played better in the second half and got some rhythm, it was just a bad start. This is a great group of guys, I love these guys and playing with a young talented team". 

 

The Clippers are back in action tomorrow afternoon, in a rematch vs SAIT @3pm.
