Beautiful day in Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. In fact on the way to the game, saw a few youngsters outside shooting hoops on the wet pavement...with etches of snow and ice melting away.
Things will be dryer inside as the Huskies look to sweep the Wolves after winning last night 110-79.
1st Period
Keyano Huskies 25 Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves 5
A Huskies defence frazzles the Wolves as they take seven minutes to score their first points.
Huskies' Stefan Jovcic (6'5" Forward 3rd Education Mississauga Ontario) has stats across the board with seven points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block shot. Points include a three-pointer, thunderous two-hand dunk and a steal which led to a coast-to-coast layup.
2nd Period
Keyano Huskies 45 Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves 20
Scattered opening five minutes with each team finding it hard to score.
Huskies' Jo Michel (6'3" Forward 5th Social Work Montreal Quebec) working hard at both ends and it pays off with a steal and dunk 37-12.
Chatter and court bumps running up-and-down the court between Wolves' 6-foot-5 Joshua Burnstad and Huskies' Noah Simpson (6'8" Forward 2nd University Studies Winnipeg Manitoba) could lead to something if not controlled.
It does a play later as three Wolves crash the offensive board with Simpson the lone Husky near the ball that goes out of bounds. Words are said walking away from Simpson who retaliates with a slight leg kick towards Liam O'Hallahan. Simpson is quickly ejected from the game.
Simpson leaves with 10 points and 8 boards. Huskies eye on the ball with 9 steals compared to 3 for the Wolves.
Surprised that Wolves are even close with their 8-of-34 shooting...including 1-for-15 from 3-points. Huskies a bit more comfortable with the long release as 5- of- 20 from downtown.
Wolves' rookie Manny Iloka at 6-foot-8, getting playing time and is steady with 5 points and a team high 8 boards.
3rd Period
Keyano Huskies 62 Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves 44
Wolves start the period with three of their five players at 6'8", 6'5" and 6'3" while Huskies tall timber are 6'5", 6'3" and 6'3".
Huskies outscored 24-17 in period.
Wolves' O'Hallahan with his aggressive style and Iloka with smoothness and size, bringing their team back. Will it be enough down 18?
4th Period
Keyano Huskies 93 Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves 63
