Lions Dethrone Kings in Season Opener

Lions Dethrone Kings in Season Opener

It came right down to the wire in the Ambrose Lions 2018 ACAC Home Opener vs the Red Deer Kings.  Similar to the Womens game, the Lions lead dwindled late and although the Kings #21, Spencer Klassen threw up a prayer at the buzzer for 3 which would have seen the win the game, if it would have gone in, this night, the Kings were dethroned by the Lions.  As Red Deer mounted their comeback, tempers started to flair as early in the 4th quarter, multiple unsportsmanlike fouls were handed out after a shoving match ensued.  Foul trouble amongst Lions starters, Josh Daniel, Isaac Gray, and Kyle Swiednicki as well as injury to guard Cody Bouchard, saw the Lions allow Red Deer to make a comeback late in the 4th quarter.  However the Lions secured their victory thanks to a huge late rally by Josh Daniel who scored the ultimate game winning basket with 58 seconds left in the game (and the team's final 5 points in the 4th quarter).   Throughout the night, the Lions were able to keep a well balanced offence seeing Josh Daniel, Cody Bouchard, Isaac Gray and Kyle Swiednicki all score double digit points.  A strong all-around game saw Sylvan Lombo get rewarded with Player of the Game recognition while for the Kings, #21 Spencer Klassen received the Player of the award thanks to his 33 points.
