Thunder Rolls Indoors: Futsal Debuts at Concordia University of Edmonton

(May 26, 2025) – The following article was submitted by the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder Athletics.

Concordia University of Edmonton is proud to announce the addition of futsal to its Thunder Athletics varsity offerings, beginning in the 2025–2026 season. This exciting expansion builds on the strength of our nationally ranked soccer programs and reflects our continued commitment to providing student-athletes with opportunities to develop and compete year-round.

“Futsal gives our athletes a chance to stay sharp during the winter months, build technical skills, and represent CUE on a new competitive stage,” said Nathaniel MacLellan, Director of Athletics & Wellness. “We’re excited to grow our sport offerings and introduce Thunder futsal to the ACAC.”

Futsal—known for its fast pace, tight spaces, and emphasis on technical precision—will offer student-athletes an elevated off-season training and competition environment. With both men’s and women’s teams launching next season, the Thunder are ready to make an immediate impact.

Stay tuned for more details as we kick off this next chapter in Thunder Athletics history.

Fear the Boom. Futsal is coming.
