2024 ACAC Women's Soccer Coaches of The Year

Grande Prairie, AB (October 24, 2024) –
North Female Coach of the Year | GADEER SOBH| Concordia Thunder:
The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is proud to announce that Gadeer Sobh, Head Coach of the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder Women’s Soccer team, has been named the 2024 ACAC Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year.
Coach Sobh took the reins of the Thunder program in June 2024 and, in her first season, led the team to an impressive 11-0-1 record in conference play. Under her leadership, the Thunder displayed dominance on the field, scoring 46 goals and boasting a goals-against average (GAA) of 0.42, with 8 shutouts throughout the season. Sobh successfully integrated nine rookies into the squad while guiding the returning core players, including Vanessa Pietramala, the reigning CCAA Women’s Soccer Player of the Year, and third-year strikers Abigael Burton and Makkayla Agar.
Despite the loss of seven graduating seniors from last year’s squad, Sobh’s leadership and ability to inspire her team have been evident. The Thunder remains a nationally-ranked program and continues to build on its tradition of excellence. Their balanced play on both ends of the pitch, with an average of 16.7 shots per game and an outstanding defensive record, stands as a testament to Sobh's coaching expertise and ability to get the best out of her players.
“Coach Sobh has brought a fresh energy to our women’s soccer program,” commented Concordia University of Edmonton Athletic Director Nate MacLellan. “Her ability to seamlessly transition into the role while maintaining our competitive edge and fostering a positive team culture has been remarkable. We are thrilled with her success in this first season and are excited for the future of Thunder Women’s Soccer under her leadership. Congratulations Gadeer!”
This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2024 ACAC Women’s Soccer Championship, hosted by the NWP Wolves in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
