2022-2023 ACAC Overall Athletic Director of the Year

CARONPORT, SK (May 9, 2023) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Stan Peters of Briercrest College and Seminary, has been selected as the 2022-23 ACAC Athletic Director of the Year.
Peters is in his fourth season of his current tenure as Briercrest Athletics Director, but has also served in the role at Briercrest from 1988-1995 and also from 2008-2012. Throughout all of his time as AD, and other ways he has served in post-secondary education and coaching, Peters has had a tremendous impact on so many young lives through his incredible investment.
This season has been a great one for Briercrest Athletics under Peter’s leadership. It was a year of several program records and first-time accomplishments for multiple Clipper teams, but most importantly, with the Core Focus and Core Values that Peters has helped instill in Briercrest Athletics, the greater work of using the pursuit of championships and the unique training ground of top-level post-secondary sport to grow disciples of Jesus and leaders of character has been happening amidst all of the success on the playing surface. Peters has worked hard to help bring the right coaches and leaders into the department to set each of the Clipper teams up for success, with having great coaches who care deeply about the mission of Briercrest, and leading their programs to be the best they can be.
In 2022-23, the Briercrest Clippers had four of their five ACAC teams host home playoff games, which has never happened before. They also had a first-time home ACAC playoff hockey series and captured the first ACAC medal for their women’s basketball program. The women’s volleyball program continued a 10-year streak of qualifying for the ACAC Conference Championship Tournament, and to top it all off, the men’s volleyball team was crowned ACAC Champions and went on to win the CCAA Bronze Medal. The department also achieved more individual awards than any one season before, with 19 ACAC and CCAA awards across the five teams, including two ACAC Coach of the Year winners and the ACAC Overall Male Athlete of the Year. Peters’ investment in his coaches and department leaders, and in setting the right direction for Briercrest Athletics has had a direct impact on all of the success. Briercrest Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Leighton Reimer, talked about Peter’s leadership and impact: “Since Stan re-joined Briercrest four years ago as our Athletic Director, he has worked tirelessly to build a culture within our athletics department that focuses on the student-athletes' whole being, making that the emphasis before winning championships. This has included hiring and developing coaches that are seeking to become transformational coaches, who are not just developing excellent athletes, but more importantly helping them grow as individuals and as students. It has been great to see how that focus has also resulted in success on the court and on the ice these past few years. Briercrest is very proud of the accomplishments of our athletic teams and Stan's significant part in those accomplishments.”
In addition to leading at Briercrest, Peters also serves on the ACAC Executive as the chair of the Finance and Operations Committee. He goes above and beyond to help lead the Conference towards becoming Canada’s premiere collegiate athletic conference. He also directly invests in mentoring the next generation of leaders by regularly teaching sessions on character and leadership development to young athletes who are part of the local Prairie Hockey Academy.
“Stan has played a very significant role in providing Leadership to our Athletic Department these last number of years”, said Assistant Athletic Director, Jamie Ramer. Ramer continued, “Post-secondary athletics has experienced many challenges recently, and yet, in the midst of it all, Stan has sought to care so well for his coaches, staff and programs along the way. At Briercrest, we desire not just to pursue championships but to use them in our unique training ground to help our athletes and staff see their God-intended purpose. He models his life after Jesus in the way that he has served this department, this institution, and the ACAC in so many ways.”
This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2023 ACAC AGM on Tuesday May 9th, 2023.
